Real cases That influenced our treatment

Fritzl Case

We looked into real cases to which we may be able to adapt traits of them into our treatment. The first case we looked into was the Fritzl case which emerged in April 2008. It was a case where Josef Fritzl had held his daughter Elisabeth captive for 24 years. In those 24 years she was locked up in the basement of their house and during the period Josef had 7 children with his daughter.

Fred and Rose West

We also looked into the case of Fred and Rose West, a serial killer couple in Gloucester who had raped and murdered at least 13+ young women and girls, some whom were their own children. It was only found out in  May 1992 when one of Fred's daughter had told her friends that she had been raped by her father whilst being filmed. from then one of her friends told her mother to which she had called the police to further investigate the family.

From the two cases we looked at, the traits of the case we extracted were that the victims were vulnerable girls/women who were not able to find a way out of their situation.

Thinking outside the box: Foreign Expectations Of A Thriller/Horror!

Ju-on: The Grudge (2002)

Even though this is a horror movie, we took aspects of the narrative and incorporated it into our treatment. Ju-on in Japanese means curse, and it is said that when a person dies with a deep and burning grudge, a curse is born. There have been many versions and re-makes of Ju-on, with the original video made in 1998.

The eerie orchestral string piece played in a minor key introduces to us the setting and scene of the movie. The elongated legato notes contrasts the soundtrack played alongside the title. The screechy high pitched sound that is played with the title reaches to an uneasy climax to which as a member of the audience expect something unsettling to appear on screen.
The filter used to show the past is similar to the effect and lighting we used to illustrate the bully sequence of our opening. In this case the filter used is to look back at the persons memory in remembering Kayako Kawamata. The Hazy dark tone and lighting that is generic of both horror and thriller could be used to foreshadow the events that are to occur later on in the movie.

Time Running Out!

With the deadline looming ahead of us for tomorrow, we're all working frantically, trying to ensure all is right in the final piece.

We've started dabbling in many things at once, currently - Louisa and Pahi are battling with last minute editing, whilst Gracious is finishing up with the production company logo.

Rough Cut : Bound, To-Get-Her (Together)

This is the rough cut of our opening sequence, the effects, soundtrack and transitions did not translate to the youtube video

Rough Cut - Audience Feedback

This week in our Media lesson, each group had to show their opening sequence to our peers to receieve constructive feedback on how we all can better our openings. Due to the fact that I and 2 other memebers of our group had to go to an English residential and leave one member to try and finish our rough cut, we werent able to have all of the required things like a title sequence or credits in the opening. This was the feedback we recieved :

- To make sure we have titles and credits that relate to our opening and ones which echoe those of a thriller genre

 - To ensure that in the fighting scenes, Tatiana makes more of a struggle and actually sounds like she's getting bullied

- To improve focus in the POV shot of Tatiana's arm with the scratches and bruises

- To improve the tracking shot of Mr Gibbs walking down the corridor because the camera was a bit shaky

-To also improve the shots of Tatiana in the drama room as the shot is a bit grainy due to the inbuilt lighting of the drama room that we used

-And to finally import the missing shots that we need in our opening scene
